Who is Rocky?
Rocky's Rescue, Inc. is named after a very special cat whose story reminds us why we do what we do.
Rocky, a handsome gray tuxedo cat estimated to be about one year old, arrived at one of our inner-city feeding colonies in the summer of 2024. We believe he had been abandoned. He wore a collar that had become dangerously tight, cutting into his neck and leaving painful sores. He was also suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection that made it difficult for him to breathe and eat.
One of our volunteers named him Rocky because of his incredible determination to survive.
From the very beginning, Rocky showed us just how resilient he was. He took every dose of medication without a fight, almost as if he understood we were trying to help him. Day by day, he regained his strength and began to reveal his affectionate personality.
But Rocky's story didn't end there.
While he loved people and could be incredibly affectionate, he also carried emotional scars. At times, when he became overstimulated, his fear would take over. The same cat who had been purring in your lap moments before would suddenly lash out with bites and scratches. We believe Rocky had experienced trauma before coming into our care and had learned that getting too close to people could lead to pain. His aggression wasn't who he was—it was how he protected himself.
Finding the right home for Rocky became one of our greatest challenges. We knew that placing him in the wrong environment could put both Rocky and his adopters at risk. More importantly, we feared that if he ended up with someone who didn't understand his behavior, he could ultimately face euthanasia.
We refused to let that happen.
After months of searching, we found the perfect sanctuary where experienced behaviorists and dedicated volunteers took the time to understand Rocky instead of giving up on him. There, he received the patience, structure, and compassion he needed to heal—not just physically, but emotionally.
Today, Rocky is thriving.
He has since been adopted into a loving home, where he enjoys life with his devoted family and his feline brother. Watching Rocky overcome his past and find happiness is one of our proudest success stories.
His journey is the reason our rescue bears his name.
